Once they smell the treat, slowly raise it above their head until their bottom touches the ground. As soon as they are in a sitting position, say “sit” and give them the treat!

Another important command to teach your dog is “stay.” This command will come in handy when you’re trying to prevent your dog from running off or getting into trouble. To train your dog to stay, start by having them sit or lie down. Once they are in position, say “stay” and take a few steps away from them. If they stay put, give them a treat! If they get up and follow you, simply repeat the command and start over.

One final command you should teach your dog is “come.” This is an important recall command that will help you keep your dog safe in case they ever run off or get lost. To train your dog to come, start by calling their name while showing them a treat. Once they start coming towards you, say “come” and give them the treat when they reach you. It’s important to only give them the treat once they are actually at your feet, otherwise they may learn to come when you have the treat instead of when you call their name.
